2 Month Squeal

Two months on April 11 and my little girl is up to 12lbs 5oz and 24.75in long! It surprises me how fast they grow in these first few months! She's looking less and less like my little newborn and more like an older baby. But it was a rough past month that I won't mind not revisiting.

Some of the struggles we faced in the last month were the witching hour. There have been nights where Natalie has cried non-stop unless Chris or I bounce her. This doesn't happen during the rest of the day, but it really wears down on you when you are already tired and ready for bed. Some things that we have found that have helped us are bouncing on a yoga ball (or any giant inflatable balls) and the Cloud B giraffe. The giraffe provides the white noise and she is out in minutes! It has saved us many hours of frustration trying to put Natalie to sleep!

The car seat still proves to be a problem for Natalie and all trips still revolve around her naptimes. During our visit with Grandma Vickie and Auntie Alex, we did a lot of travelling to various places in our city. Unfortunately this did not work well for Natalie who was nursing up a storm and napping so poorly that both of us were exhausted. This led to me crying out for help to my mom's friend who is also a Lactation Consultant to come help us out!

So, the next part I will try not to cover in details because the memory is still traumatizing. We noticed Natalie had a tongue-tie since birth. It was not an obvious one, but it was there. While the first few weeks were not terrible, Natalie started to nurse more poorly and poorly as the weeks went on. Examples: nursing for a few seconds, popping off, and needing to be relatched constantly; she wanted to nurse every 30min because she wasn't getting enough at one feeding; her latch was very shallow which leads to sore nipples and very painful feedings; she couldn't burp after feedings because her tongue was constricted. And I could go on and on, but the solution is to have the band that's restricting her tongue clipped. So we scheduled an appointment and has this taken care of. Let me just say the procedure lasted a minute, but the hour afterwards was hell and the two days after that were a nightmare. Apparently this doesn't happen very often and not to this degree, but my daughter was dealing with a lot already (note all of the problems above and then some), and this was enough to push her over the edge. My poor baby :( Things will be done differently next time.

On a happier note, we are really looking forward to meeting my new nephew, Austin, who is due this month! He and Natalie will be about two months apart and hopefully great friends as they grow up. It has been fun having my sister-in-law go through pregnancy with me!

  1. Still reading through your blog, but I just had to mention this very strange coincidence... Hubby and I had the very same bedding set...! (had, since we have a dog who sleeps with us and the light colors were no good with dirty dog...)
